White crosses, taped over mouths, a chorus of screaming demonstrators. In the middle of it all: The teenager Marie. She is regularly dragged to anti-abortion demonstrations by her dogmatic mother. Then Marie gets pregnant unintentionally. Now she has to stand up to her mother to find the answer to the life-changing question: Do I want my child?
MARY MOTHER OF GOD was realized in co-production with Bayerischer Rundfunk and with film funding from FFF Bayern. The film was inspired by real people and events. It is based on several conversations with militant anti-abortion activists, affected girls, women and doctors. It is set in Munich, near the largest abortion clinic in Germany. Thousands of abortions and numerous demonstrations against them take place here every year.
The leading roles are played by Emily Kusche (Sløborn, Doppelgänger, Tigermilch), Brigitte Urhausen (Tatort, La refuge) and Caroline Hartig (@ichbinsophiescholl, Filip, Hameln – die Rückkehr des Rattenfängers). In other roles: Ilknur Boyraz, Florian Fischbach, Deborah Müller.
